Tom Steyer Can’t Buy California’s Trust. He’ll Have to Earn It.

In a video interspersed with footage of construction workers in hard hats and a train traveling across a rusty industrial bridge, Tom Steyer announced this week that he’s running for governor of California as a Democrat.

“The richest people in America think that they earned everything themselves,” he says from a modest two-car garage, dressed like a middle-class Midwesterner in a button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, just so. “Bullshit, man!”
