Trouble Is Brewing in Solar Power’s Heartlands

Amid the Trump-induced crisis for clean energy this year, one beacon of hope has stood out: China.

While other countries have been winding back their net-zero commitments, the People’s Republic has turned itself into the factory floor of the energy transition. China’s supply chains for solar power, lithium-ion batteries, and electric vehicles are transforming swaths of the planet. The installed base of wind and solar, already the world’s biggest, is set to more than double by 2035. Total emissions may already have peaked.
