For the past few years, we’ve been inundated with promises from tech executives about how artificial intelligence will cure diseases, transform the economy, and solve complex problems.
There have been critics, but much of the industry rhetoric has focused on how machines will soon reach artificial general intelligence, becoming smarter than humans and unlocking a new frontier of global progress. The specifics haven’t always been clear, but this potential has been used to justify tens of billions of dollars of investment.
