Aiding Ukraine Has Been a Great Investment for the US

Trump ignores that assistance to Kyiv has revitalized the American military, created domestic jobs and decimated Putin’s forces.

Presidential power, wrote Harvard scholar Richard Neustadt, “is the power to persuade.” Lately, President Donald Trump has tried to persuade Americans that their support for Ukraine has been a colossal waste. That argument distorts reality; it also threatens to distort US policy for years to come.

So it’s worth tallying just what the US has gained by preventing the violent destruction of Ukraine — and remembering that America’s strategic balance sheet isn’t simply a matter of dollars and cents.
