What’s ‘Smart’ About Installing a Smart Meter
The short answer is, a lot. Money in your pocket is a terrific incentive, along with supporting the energy transition.

On the face of it, smart meters are dull. While houseguests might marvel at a heat pump or solar panels, these little boxes are hidden away in a cupboard and largely ignored.
But these devices, which accurately measure how much gas and electricity households use and automatically send readings to energy suppliers, are key to reducing our reliance on foreign gas and decarbonizing the power grid. To achieve a just energy transition, everyone needs one and they all need to work properly. Making that the reality has been one of the largest infrastructure upgrade projects undertaken in Britain, and it’s only becoming more complex as deadlines loom this year.
