‘Eat the Rich’ Isn’t a Recipe for Better Health Care

To say it’s been a terrible and tragic week for health insurers is to understate the obvious. The big story, of course, was the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare executive Brian Thompson, which set off a manhunt across Manhattan aided by “digital breadcrumbs.” Then there was the alarm that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield was going to apply a new billing protocol to cap payments (and deny claims) in some states when anesthesiologists exceed time limits set by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
