In October, a chilling law will take effect in Louisiana that could compromise women’s health. It will certainly hinder doctors’ ability to provide the best care for their patients. Signed in May by Louisiana’s governor under the guise of “protecting” women, the law reclassifies two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol, as controlled dangerous substances.
Possessing the pills — which can be used to induce abortion — without a valid prescription will become punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
