Consumer companies must innovate to keep European buyer interest, as they can no longer count on inflation to boost the top line.

With inflation moderating, investors are looking to big consumer companies to sell more tubs of ice cream, tins of beans and bottles of bleach.
But they shouldn’t expect a quick rebound. It’s easier for the branded giants to lose sales during tougher times than to win them back when conditions improve. Consumers learn new habits they are reluctant to abandon, even when they have more money in their pockets.
