CPI Day is almost upon us. Within hours of receiving this, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will publish US consumer price index data for January. For some years now, this has been the most closely watched economic release on the planet, largely but not exclusively because of the influence it has on the Federal Reserve’s decision-making. How much does it matter now and are we looking at the right number?
