Note: Since publishing this column, the NRA has announced that Wayne LaPierre is resigning effective Jan. 31, 2024.
Jury selection began this week in the state of New York’s civil case against the National Rifle Association, with a trial scheduled to begin next week. New York Attorney General Letitia James seeks to oust NRA President Wayne LaPierre and other senior leaders from the group in the wake of a lengthy corruption scandal. Over many years, LaPierre and cronies allegedly used membership dues like a private piggy bank , financing everything from sweetheart employment deals to luxe travel and LaPierre’s shopping sprees at the Zegna boutique in Beverly Hills. (LaPierre’s contempt for Hollywood elitism ends where Rodeo Drive begins.)
