Biden Isn’t Likely to Ban TikTok Before Next Year’s Election
The platform may be a national security risk, but it is also one of the best ways to reach younger voters.

TikTok may ultimately be banned in the US, but the chances of that happening before the 2024 election are about as high as China agreeing to sell the platform. In other words: Not very.
As a practical matter, the national security concerns over TikTok’s Chinese ownership won’t be resolved until next year — even if the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US completes its review before then. And outlawing a hugely popular social media platform in an election year would not only anger the tens of millions of young voters who use it daily, it would also cut off a critical information ecosystem that Gen Z has come to rely on.
