Programming note: Money Stuff will be off tomorrow and Friday, back on Monday.
Once, as I have had occasion to recall recently, I was a mergers-and-acquisitions lawyer. As the junior associate on most of my deals, I was often in charge of the minor, detail-oriented, administrative things. For instance, in many corporate deals, there will be a closing memo describing the flow of funds and documents, listing exactly what had to happen when, and I might be in charge of that memo. I would make sure that little administrative details, like the account numbers for the wire transfers, were correct, so that the closing could go off without a hitch.
