One thing you can do is buy a bunch of stock in some small publicly traded company and then put out a fake press release saying that Walmart Inc. is going to acquire that company. The stock will go up and you can sell your stock at a profit. Later Walmart and the company will deny it and the stock will go back down, but if you’re quick you can make a profit. Even later, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and federal prosecutors will come after you, but if you cover your tracks well and live in a foreign country you might be okay. Anyway this is very much a thing that people do occasionally in the U.S. stock market.
