President Biden Dishonored Afghanistan’s Long-Suffering Military
In the course of two decades, more than 66,000 soldiers and police gave their lives to preserve their nation.

Photographer: WAKIL KOHSAR/AFPIn a post-facto justification of his decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, President Joe Biden on Monday night said he felt vindicated by the capitulation of the country’s security forces to the Taliban. “The Afghan military collapsed, sometimes without trying to fight,” he said. “If anything, the developments of the past week reinforced that ending U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan now was the right decision. American troops cannot and should not be fighting in a war and dying in a war that Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves.”
Biden’s argument is both disingenuous and dishonorable.
