Infrastructure Deal Dispels Three Old Myths

Bipartisanship isn’t impossible. And striking deals can still benefit both sides.

Nineteen Republicans joined all of the Senate’s Democrats to pass an infrastructure bill on Tuesday. That’s not quite the gold standard for bipartisanship, with 31 Republicans opposing the measure, but it’s pretty good for those who care about such things — which certainly includes one or more Democratic senators.

The bill’s passage demonstrated that three things people have been saying are wrong, at least if they’re expressed as absolutes.
