After Suspected Russian Hack, Biden Needs to Show Leadership

America’s weakness in cybersecurity has been obvious for decades. Fixing the problem won’t be easy.

No one could say they weren’t warned.

Although the sophisticated cyberattacks that have penetrated agencies across the federal government in recent months exploited a novel security flaw, they were only successful due to years of mismanagement and inattention to obvious vulnerabilities. It will fall to President-elect Joe Biden to finally address a problem that has eluded all of his recent predecessors.
