Who Will Speak Out Against China?

Outside criticism of the country's policies will increasingly have to come from those with little stake there.

It has now been more than three months since Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted and then deleted his support for protesters in Hong Kong, prompting a debate over free speech and corporate America’s relationship with China. So it’s worth looking at what has been learned.

One striking fact is how few players in the National Basketball Association have since spoken out against China. These are the same players who do not hesitate to express controversial opinions about U.S. politics or racial relations.
