South Korea has little to lose by putting Jay Y. Lee, the billionaire heir to Samsung Group, in jail -- and plenty to gain.

After six months in detention and a highly publicized trial, the Samsung Electronics Co. vice chairman will get a district court ruling Friday from a panel of three judges on charges including embezzlement, perjury and bribery. Prosecutors are seeking 12 years in prison. Lee denies the allegations.
