Feb. 10 (Bloomberg) -- This is a pivotal moment for theCommon Core State Standards.

Although 45 states quickly adopted the higher standardscreated by governors and state education officials, the efforthas begun to lose momentum. Some are now wavering in the face ofmisinformation campaigns from people who misrepresent theinitiative as a federal program and from those who support thestatus quo. Legislation has been introduced in at least 12states to prohibit implementation and states have dropped out ofthe two major Common Core assessment consortia. Oppositionvoices are growing louder as new assessments show studentsaren’t performing as well as they had on easier state testsoffered previously.
