Nov. 15 (Bloomberg) -- Fix the debt. It’s a lot harder thanit sounds.
Earlier this year, a group of longtime deficit hawks cametogether to try to accomplish what has eluded their predecessorsfor so long. Unveiled at the National Press Club in Washingtonon July 17, the group had a new name (the Campaign to Fix theDebt), some old faces (Erskine Bowles, Alan Simpson, PetePeterson, Alice Rivlin), and all of the familiar platitudesassociated with previous efforts to put the federal budget on asustainable path: a “non-partisan coalition” working toreplace “temporary patches” with a “comprehensive solution”that will “grow the economy” and “protect the mostvulnerable.”
