Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- The completion of the firsttranscontinental railway in 1869 divided the Great Plains intwo. Some of its earliest passengers were buffalo hunters, andas they spread out from the railroad’s embankments, the vastbuffalo herds were divided, as well.
