June 19 (Bloomberg) -- Saturday will mark 40 years sincethe U.S. enacted a law requiring publicly funded schools toprovide similar opportunities to all students, regardless ofsex. It’s an anniversary worth celebrating.
Title IX, as the legislation is known, has improved thelives of women more dramatically than even its most ardentsupporters could have imagined. In particular, the mostcontroversial provision -- giving girls similar sportingopportunities to boys -- has highlighted how extracurricularactivities such as sports can shape who we become as adults.
