May 7 (Bloomberg) -- The people at the New York TimesMagazine must think that nobody has ever read Ayn Rand, or maybeeven Adam Smith.

Their cover story on Sunday -- misleadingly titled, “Arethe Rich Worth a Damn?” -- reports breathlessly that there isthis fellow named Edward Conard who believes in free-marketcapitalism and is willing to fill a gap in the argument we’vebeen having about growing income inequality. Until now therehasn’t been anyone, or at least anyone still alive, willing tosay publicly that what the U.S. needs is more inequality, notless. (Conard has even written a book about “Why EverythingYou’ve Been Told About the Economy Is Wrong.”)
