So it should come as little surprise thatrecently Goldman has started to push back hard against itsnemesis, Senator Carl Levin, Democrat of Michigan, and hisnarrative that the firm is the lead villain of thefinancial crisis.

In its new mission, Goldman has been very careful notto take on Levin directly -- after all he remains a verypowerful figure in Congress and incurring his further wrathwould be plain silly.
