Violent rioting brought Donald Trump’s presidency closer to its conclusion as a mob of supporters who he egged on stormed the U.S. Capitol building in a failed bid to derail the final official act that cemented his re-election defeat.
The same day, Democrats secured control of the Senate by winning both of Georgia’s runoff ballots, paving the way for President-elect Joe Biden to pursue his governing agenda and punishing Republican candidates who’d supported Trump’s untrue claims that the November presidential vote had been stolen by fraud.
