All the Thoughtful Details of the New TWA Hotel
Layovers aren’t looking so bad anymore. From working controls in a cockpit cocktail bar to vintage magazines and newspapers for sale, there is much to explore in the new hotel at JFK airport.
After years of anticipation, the TWA Hotel at JFK International Airport opened its doors to public on Wednesday May 15—although not without some kinks. The $300 million, 512-room hotel is located just off Terminal 5, with Eero Saarinen’s futuristic Trans World Flight Center as its centerpiece. The swooping, creature-like building, dedicated to the then-new jet age, was a marvel of midcentury modern design when it opened nearly 57 years ago to the date. We toured the hotel as the first guests were exploring its retro features.
