Floodwaters Continue to Drown American Heartland
Midwest farmers are still under water following winter storm.
Record flooding inundated vast areas of the Midwest last week, following a hurricane-like winter storm that submerged communities and agricultural lands.
The deluge could be a preview for one of the worst years for flooding in the U.S., according to federal weather officials, as more rain and snow melt may induce waters to rise again. The flooding has already caused disruptions to ethanol shipments and threatens to push up fuel prices ahead of the summer season.
On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump approved a disaster declaration for Iowa, making federal funds available to aid in state and local recovery. Governor Kim Reynolds said that damage estimates top $1.6 billion in the state alone.
