Trump-Xi Thaw Deepens Europe’s Minerals Angst

With relations between the US and China ostensibly entering a more stable phase, Europe may soon have to confront its increasingly constrained role in the global economy, particularly in the battle for critical minerals.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping praised his meetings with Donald Trump this week and promoted a new framework for bilateral ties, striking an optimistic tone despite few concrete agreements. Ahead of the US president’s departure on Air Force One, Xi described the “landmark visit” as producing consensus on stable trade relations and broader cooperation.
