While we wait for results from Microsoft and Amazon published after the US markets close (as our team call it, “80 seconds of big tech earnings that will decide the stock market’s fate”), it’s the decision by the UAE to withdraw from OPEC that offers the most hope right now to the embattled British government.

Here is a nation saying it wants to pump, pump, pump outside of the genteel magic circle that is OPEC. Once the Iran war is over, this could lower prices.
