In auction news this week, there was only one bid for the gold toilet , which sold for its bullion value plus buyer’s premium. After serving previous stints as a highbrow tourist attraction at the Guggenheim and then a middlebrow tourist attraction at Blenheim Castle , its new destiny is to be a lowbrow tourist attraction at Ripley’s Believe It or Not . It’s a kind of art-as-utility, which is one of my subjects this week. But first we need to talk about ticketing.
