Europe’s China Chip Spat Eases as Exports Resume
Get caught up.
In a possible de-escalation of the geopolitical spat between China and the European Union over semiconductor exports,Beijing has agreed to allow the flow of chips from Dutch chipmaker Nexperia, a unit of a China-based company, to resume. The Netherlands also is considering suspension of its powers over the chipmaker.
The dispute erupted last month after the Dutch government seized control of the company, a key source of vital chips to European car manufacturers, to guarantee supply. Beijing reacted by cutting off Nexperia from the Chinese factory it relies on, disrupting the chipmaker’s operations.
