Go to any grocery store from Los Angeles to London and you’re likely to see KitKats, Hershey and Mars bars. What’s less obvious is that their manufacturers’ key ingredient can be traced to a chocolate giant most consumers have never heard of — and its fortunes are vital to how much you pay for your sweet fix.
