Hong Kong shut down ahead of the potentially damaging passage of Super Typhoon Ragasa, which is projected to be closest to the city early Wednesday before scraping the southern coast of China until it reaches Vietnam.

The typhoon is packing top sustained winds of 220 kilometers (137 miles) per hour, according to the local weather agency, which is equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane on the five-step Saffir-Simpson scale. The cyclone is likely to be the most powerful storm to hit the city since Mangkhut in 2018.
