Today’s UK-US announcements are chunkier than usual for a state visit, but it’s unlikely he’s given much credit for them. I remember when I was in government and we had foreign dignitaries and titans of worldwide industry flying in for the Global Investment Summit. We shook the Whitehall tree for as many billion-dollar projects as we could find – new or ever so slightly old, it didn’t seem to matter. Yet I don’t think even we quite mustered as many billions tumbling and trickling through the government press release as we see today.
