Coming on the heels of deescalation with China and a series of US deals in the Middle East, this suggested the US may be making more headway in its trade negotiations. Without offering details, Trump said the the Indian government has “offered us a deal where basically they are willing to literally charge us no tariff.”
In another sign of progress, US and Chinese officials met for trade talks in South Korea, just days after both sides agreed to pause some tariffs for 90 days. Yet some investors appeared to take a cautious view. The better-than-expected outcome of the tariff negotiations is not enough to ignite a rush into Chinese assets, they said, given lingering uncertainty over a final deal and concerns that the government may hold back on stimulus in the meantime.
