Mayhem descends on Coinbase. Shares in the crypto firm slumped after it said hackers bribed workers to steal customer data and demanded a $20 million ransom, which it refused to pay. The interlopers had near-constant access since January, a person familiar said, although the company disputed the assertion. The breach may cost as much as $400 million to remedy. More trouble: The exchange also said it’s cooperating with a Securities and Exchange Commission probe into whether it misstated user numbers.
