President Donald Trump defended the use of tariffs in his 100-minute address to a joint session of Congress, saying they will make America rich and great again, while acknowledging the possibility of an adjustment period. He also called for an end to the $52 billion Chips Act subsidy program. Asian shares rose along with US and European futures in a relief rally after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the US may walk back some tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
