Scammers, Drug Runners Turn Remote Economic Zone Into Criminal Hotspot

In a remote corner of Southeast Asia, the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone resembles a mid-sized Chinese city, adorned with skyscrapers, shopping areas, a casino and an artificial lake. Its purpose, according to Chinese businessman and GTSEZ founder Zhao Wei, is to facilitate development in its host country of Laos, which is home to some of the poorest people in the region.
