This week's MapLab comes from Marie Patino, a Bloomberg graphics reporter.
Last week, when Vice President Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in her bid for the US presidency, mapmakers got very excited. Walz, a self-proclaimed geographic information systems nerd, has given several speeches at the GIS software company ESRI’s annual user conference, including in July, just weeks before becoming Harris’s vice presidential candidate. There, he spoke about the importance of maps and data visualization for efficient governance, and how he’s used those tools to lead Minnesota. “GIS helps build trust,” he said.
