Susan Wojcicki, one of the most important media executives of this century, died at the age of 56 after a battle with lung cancer. Wojcicki grew up around Stanford University, and famously rented her garage to the co-founders of Google in the search company’s earliest days.

She was one of the company’s first 20 employees, a trusted advisor to its founders who advocated for the acquisition of a little video site called YouTube. Wojcicki later served as the chief executive officer of YouTube until last year when she resigned.
