Cartons of strawberries sell for just a dollar each, though their deep red hue signals they’ll need to be eaten right away. How are they so cheap?
The answer is a massive warehouse space in the South Bronx known as Hunts Point Market that supplies the city with 60% of its fresh produce. Globally, markets like Hunts Point — the largest of its kind — are the dominant model for grocery distribution.
