When Rusty Foster began writing a newsletter to showcase his short fiction in 2013, he used a service called TinyLetter. It was free, because there was no mechanism on the platform for people to pay and no real audience analytics to speak of. “I had a spreadsheet, and part of my process, I would add the day and the subscriber number, and then compare to total subscribers, just so I can see a graph,” he says.
