Croatia’s President Is Determined to be Prime Minister
Welcome to the Brussels Edition, Bloomberg’s daily briefing on what matters most in the heart of the European Union.
Croatian President Zoran Milanovic accused his nation’s top court of obstructing the will of the people after it blocked his attempts to run in next month’s election for prime minister. The Constitutional Court chief in Zagreb said yesterday that Milanovic can’t participate in the April contest without first resigning as president. “I will be the prime minister, but I won't tell those illiterate mobsters how I intend to do it,” Milanovic said in response to the court. A Milanovic premiership could spell trouble for the EU — the leader has previously criticized the bloc’s positioning against Russia and prevented Croatia from hosting Ukrainian military training.
