Days after the launch of Bitcoin in 2009, its creator sent an email discussing the potential use cases for the new digital currency. “It could get started in a narrow niche,” the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto wrote, referencing things like “reward points,” “donation tokens,” and maybe even “micropayments for adult sites.”
