The WTO Tries to Broker Trade Peace Amid Risks of a Tariff War
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the conclusion of the Uruguay Round, the negotiations spanning almost eight years that led to the creation of the World Trade Organization.
As the WTO’s 164 members (plus two brand new ones — Comoros and Timor Leste) meet this week to show the organization remains relevant in supporting free trade, Uruguay wants to celebrate the milestone by injecting more ambition to the talks. Without it, the risk of lukewarm results looms over the 1.6 million-square-foot convention center in Abu Dhabi.
