Labour's Ceasefire Debate: The Readout with Allegra Stratton
Both leaders of the main parties emerge into this week slightly punch-drunk. Rishi Sunak is reeling from the formal calling of a recession and two by-election defeats, while Keir Starmer is dealing with two bungled sackings of prospective MPs, something Bloomberg Opinion’s Martin Ivens calls “one of [Starmer’s] worst weeks since becoming Labour leader.”
Sunak is clearly facing the trickier week — losing two seats in Parliament is never OK — but for once, it’s the Labour, rather than Tory, WhatsApp groups that are hyper with plotting activity.
