The latest London property to be granted legal protections against redevelopment isn’t a cultural venue or a historic pub. It’s a Tesco Express, a supermarket that’s part of the UK’s largest grocery chain.
The nondescript grocery store on Dean Street in central London was deemed an Asset of Community Value this week on grounds of community need. In a lively neighborhood filled with bars, restaurants and specialty stores, residents say the Tesco Express remains one of the last places where they can buy everyday essentials from cereal to toilet paper.
