When Israel stops its war in Gaza, aimed at destroying Hamas, the US and other powers plan to bring the Palestinian Authority back to oversee rebuilding. But Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh says Hamas should be part of the Palestinian future because it can’t be eliminated.

“Hamas before Oct. 7 is one thing and after is another thing,” Shtayyeh told Bloomberg in an interview in his West Bank office, referring to the day Hamas operatives killed 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped 240 others in a brutal attack that launched the nine-week-old war.
