Milei’s Softer Tone Shows How Much Argentina Needs China

The first Cold War had disastrous side-effects for Latin America, with the rivalry between the US and Soviet Union triggering the rise of authoritarian regimes while encouraging a lack of policy independence and military-centric approaches to government that hindered both development and democracy.

But Cold War II is shaping up differently, and less violently, as increasing competition between China and the US results in a flood of money pouring into infrastructure projects aimed at building influence throughout the region.
