The watchdogs are tightening their grip on the financial system, and the Department of Justice wants in. With the banking industry making its way out of a wave of failures and struggling with pressure on margins, there’s an expectation in the market that more banking mergers are en route. Now the Justice Department’s main antitrust cop is saying that you should expect those deals to be broadly scrutinized.
